The Lake Superior Area REALTORS, Inc. is trying to spread the word on a particularly clever form of fraud called “wire transfer fraud.” While this effects many industries, fraudsters have taken a particular shine to real estate for a number of reasons and several members in our community have already fallen victim. While this particular type of fraud is not new, with the hot market we’re in now, we want to reiterate the prevalence of this scam and remind people to be cautious to not get caught in one of these. I would be happy to share our knowledge of this issue and how consumers can protect themselves. We’ve scheduled a public informational event with FBI Supervisory Special Agent Patricia Weber to speak on email scams and wire transfer fraud on Thursday, May 24th. While there will be no live recording of this event, I’m available for interviews prior or during and can meet in your offices or mine to share this information. Thank you for your attention to this matter and hopefully we can work together to help protect our community from this issue!
