Did you know June is both Pride and Homeownership Month as well as holds Juneteenth, now a recognized federal holiday?? NAR has some fantastic tools available to you as realtors to help you address the importance of homeownership.  June is National Homeownership Month, a time to celebrate the value that owning a home brings to families and communities. NAR has created a Homeownership Month landing page that outlines things that we will be doing during the month and includes resources that you can share with your members.

We celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month and support the equal rights of all people regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity. LSAR’s DEI Committee is pleased to share that they have sponsored a booth at the Duluth/Superior Pride Festival at Bayfront Park on Saturday, September 3!  Additional information will be shared as the event gets closer.  The following celebrations will be occurring in the Twin Ports area:

• Friday, June 17: Honor Our Elders Luncheon / 11:30-1:30 pm at Duluth City Hall
• Saturday, June 18: Twin Ports Juneteenth Celebration / 1:00-5:00 at Barkers Island in Superior
• Sunday, June 19: St. Mark’s Gospel Brunch / 10:00-12:00 at Central Hillside Sport Court
• Sunday, June 19: NAACP Annual Juneteenth Jubilee / 1:00-6:00 at Central Hillside Community Center

In terms of government related news, communities across the Northland and northern WI, are looking seriously at short term rental regulations.  Taking opportunities to participate in public meetings, hearings, and workshops as realtors in the local government process adds a valuable perspective!  The GA Committee is monitoring these activities and proactively sharing information with affected members as they learn more.  Due to the increased discussion on this topic, the government affairs committee is working with LSAR staff on putting together an informative resource regarding short term rentals!  Watch for this new tool soon!

The GA Committee is also holding a Q2 Lunch and Learn with the Director of Public Works at the City of Ashland on Wednesday, June 29th from 11:30-2:00 pm!  Stay tuned for registration for this virtual and in-person meeting.
